Both cultures intertwine for the girls because they want to dress how they want. Feel sexy and become westernized with their chose of fashion.  At the same time in their culture, they always taught to be modest and subtle. They struggle with the dilemma but they deal with it by living a double life. They are modest in front of their family but when they are hanging out, they dress how they want to.

At the same time, they embrace their own culture by wearing bindis and wearing saris because they love their brown desi culture as well.   

It is the best of both worlds for the girls of living with two cultures being brown women.
