Episode 1 The Tinder Arrangement
Zinnat is facing dilemma because she is feeling
pressure from her parents and family to get married even though she does not
wish to and she wants to finish her studies first. She struggles to find love when she turns to social media
dating apps to find someone before her parents find a suitor for her. Culture
clashes when Zinnat tries to find a man in America who wants to become married
at such a young age, unfortunately all these young brown men just want to have
“fun”.
Amina struggles to come to terms that she is
bisexual and knows her parents would never accept this because she is a Muslim
brown woman and it is a sin in their religion. She hides her identity from her
family and tries to pretend she can hide it, but only for so long.
Minal is a
hard working student trying to become a doctor, which is her parents dream. She
currently studies in Ivy League school and has a 4.0 GPA but love is hard and
is the last thing in her mind. She has decided that she does not wish to get married
nor have kids but fears her family does not wish the same. She wants to travel
the world and become a successful independent woman on her own terms.
Leila struggles to hide the fact that she has a boyfriend for 2 years now. It is considered a sin and unacceptable in the religion and culture. She has kept this secret for many years and it is hard for Leila to hide this from her family. She struggles to lie with her family all the time and wishes she could live her life how westerners do without feeling the guilt and negativity of having a long-term
boyfriend.
