Episode 2: Fair and Lovely? No thanks
The girls have always heard ever since they were young girls
that being light skinned was the epitome of beauty in their culture back in
Bangladesh. In the Western culture it
appeared the same, you would not considered beautiful if you were dark skin. If
you did not fit the typical Euro-centric beauty then you did not matter. The
girls start to embrace their unique features and love their melanin.
Zinnat, Amina, Minal and Leila realize that their
beauty is special and important; they keep their long thick hair, embrace their
dark brown skin, and emphasize their beautiful thick eyebrows, big lips and
eyes.
They refuse to
do the same as their mothers and put turmeric cream called Fair and Lovely that
makes your skin appear lighter, and accept that blue eyes, blond hair, pale
skin and thin body is not the norm anymore.
